The
Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur is the nation's only transportation hub integrating
all major rail transportation networks including the Express Rail Link
(ERL) services to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and to
the new administration centre, Putrajaya.
Dubbed as the Virtual City Airport station in the city, the Stesen Sentral
Kuala Lumpur is the biggest interchange for the Light Rail Transport (LRT)
system and KTM Komuter trains as well as the current KTM Intercity trains
running from Singapore-Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok and in later phase to link
to the TrainsAsia rail network to Kunming in China.
In addition, the Express Rail Link services in the Stesen Sentral Kuala
Lumpur is the only direct link in the country to KLIA operating from KL
City Air Terminal (KL CAT) which is located in the sophisticated Stesen
Sentral Kuala Lumpur.
With the completion of the KLIA Ekspres, one of Express Rail Link services
in April 2002, travelers can enjoy the convenience of high-speed rail
services, between KLIA and Kuala Lumpur city centre and enjoy the international
airport facilities within the station that serves as an extended airport
terminal. KLIA Transit has been on operation in June 2002, which serves
townships of Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya/ Cyberjaya and Salak Tinggi.
As such this station is believed to be the first of its kind in the world
today where passengers and travelers will be able to check in and check
out to KLIA. The station has been recognized as a new international landmark
as it has been coded "XKL" by International Air Transport Association
(IATA).
