Formerly a marshalling yard for Malaysia’s national rail operator, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), the emergence of Kuala Lumpur Sentral began when the Government awarded the privatization of Stesen Sentral to Kuala Lumpur Sentral Sdn Bhd, a consortium led by MRCB, on June 27, 1994. |

A concession was then signed on August 18, 1997, whereby Kuala Lumpur Sentral Sdn Bhd was tasked to build and surrender Stesen Sentral to the Government, in exchange for development rights over the surrounding 72-acre freehold commercial land. |

The Kuala Lumpur Railway Station received its last intercity train service on April 15, 2001 with the arrival of the Senandung Malam at 10.30pm. It marked the end of the station's 90-year period as the central hub of rail transportation in the peninsula.
As of April 16, 2001 all KTM Berhad intercity services to the north, south and the east coast began operations from the new Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station intercity train to arrive at the KL Sentral Station was the 7am Express Kenari, from Singapore. |

KLIA Ekspres, an express train service directly from the KLIA to Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station was launched on April 14, 2002.
Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur is setup to be a station which provides
transfers between buses and trains. It is marked as the central point for most of Kuala Lumpur's rail-based public transportation, and it is also an important transitional point for inter-city trains serving Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and Hadyai Thailand. |

KL Sentral -Ipoh-KL Sentral Route, a KTM Intercity shuttle train service provided by Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) began its service on December 1, 2008. The two terminals are Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station.
In 2008, KL Sentral Station registered traffic of over 100,000 passengers daily, which translated into 36.5 million people a year. (The station is designed to accommodate 50 million passengers a year and up to 100 million by 2020) – pic of commuters, rush hour. |
